And I will never grow so old again

June 30th, 2003

Today I spent a whole day in the “how not to write a sucky thesis” program at the Learning Center. It was actually really good, and might make my writing less “crapulent”. And what’s more, the event was catered! So little nibbly sandwiches were had by all, thanks to SUPRA. Ah.. the life of a post grad, how I long for thee.

Well, weekend has come and gone. There were some high points, and some not-so-hi points. Some misunderstandments, I suspect. But lessons are learnt, so not all is lost. Am I being vague? Well, tis my blog, bite me.

Handed in. I’m pretty happy with the essay, though not fabulously so. Oh well, it is all done.

Bugger it, I’m done.

It could probably use more editing, but I have not the mood at the moment. Now I just have to get some photocopies, make it look pretty, and see if the lecturer completely hates it or not. I just want to be able to relax again.

I can still remember

Why didn’t I learn concentration skills during my 19 years of schooling?

Last night a frenzied moment of panic and frustration hit: I’d left the disk containing my thouroughly revised essay on it. For a split second, my sanity was completely effaced, and I was in a sore, sore mood when I realised this at home.

Luckily, upon arriving at 8:30 to the library, the disk was still in the box where I’d left it, so some order was restored to the world. Now I’m busy doing the final draft before I hand the “beast” in.

Courage, bon homme, courage.

Part of being a ninja is recognising other ninjas amongst oneself. An if I am a ninja, then Lorien is the super-guru essay ninja. He breathes not air like you or I - he is just one big ball of marvelous ideas. I found this out when I asked him to make some comments on my latest essay. Needless to say, he wails louder than 6000 wailing guitars.

I am sitting in the library, next to a crazy jungle gerbil, and I’m wearing a mandarin yamuka.

Something has got to break soon.

I’m getting lost in depth of procrastination. Someone send me a liferaft. Or at maybe just 6000 words that make sense to explain “collections”.

HAHA! I just got rescued from the library by a Vengance Demon. Huzzah! All is good in the world.

Set me adrift, and I’m loss

THANK YOU JIMMY AND LIEDRA! The beta release of my assignment is now debugged, and has been uploaded. It isnt’ open source yet, but for a copy, or any bug reports, I’m allways around.

In an effort not to tackle my next project (which I want to get done by monday…), I wrote another whinge to eyes.puzzling.org. I’ve been told I whinge too much.

So it happens… I’ve been putting off doing my collection assignment for a while. Then last night, at around 11:00pm, I get off my ass and actually start it. I write decently for about 2 hours, and churn out 2000 words. The grammer is a little crapulent, but the ideas are really solid. It is shaping up to be an essay that SAYS something.. doesn’t just flounder waiting for the word count to come up.

Mad props go to Jimmy for very thouroughly checking over my assignment (and finding out what I’d feared.. it sucks major cock). Also recieving mad props is Liedra, who was kind enough to look over the revised version.

They both rock so hard that they make me question my own ninjaness.

Spent last night at Yanthe’s (Lorien’s sister) house party, one with the unusual theme of “Russian Constructivism”. The house was decorated with Malek style paintings, and the night divulged into a reading of Russian poetry. I’m rather envious at the originality of the whole event.

Ani DiFranco rocks. End of story.

Things are running fairly smoothly as of late. I have a VERY dodgy first draft for both of my essays. Hopefully by Monday, a solid draft of the Exhibition Catalogue will be finished (any takers for proof reading?). It is ok, not brilliant, but I can’t get very emotive about a big wanky sales piece. Heck, even my love of wanky writing has limits.

I spent a while last night trying to get a start on my exhibition catalogue, when I was acosted by a certain unamed individual, who resembled a psychopatic jungle gerbil (JPG, hence forth). While seeing her was great, it was rather distracting, and it turns out (through little fault on .jpg’s part, all truth be told), that I forgot to save my catalogue plan onto my disk. I did save it, but I haven’t the foggiest where, nor do I know if it is retrievable. So to the starting blocks again.

I had an increidible night last night!! It started off with me scurring like the mice that I’ve turned into, out of the library and onto the welcoming arms of the “Duck and Swan”. My tutor and supervisor, Michael Carter has just retaired from 30 years of teaching. As he says “a much needed break”. All in all, he is a fantastic academic, who has a very different approach to looking at art. And anyone that knows him knows that there would be no better send off than a beer.

As per usual, I’m exhausted. I wonder where energy comes from, and where I can get me some.

I had a job interview today. Interesting. A guy in Bondi that does web design. So far it looks quite good. I think that it would really help me out, and the conditions sound resonable. Now all I do is wait for a project to come in.

Quick question : Does anyone know who sang the song “Don’t Call Me Dude”? And doesn anyone have it in an mp3-able form?

On other news. There is a wonderfull book called “Malvern Caller” which I read in Paris back in the days. She had an interesting rationale for being vegeterian. She had the idea that upon death, you are put in a room with every animal that you’d ever eaten. In the room, all you could feel was the stare of all the animals. Therefore she decided never to eat anything with eyes again.

Get your entries in to the Dr Suess competition. It is sure to heat up. I have the worst case of writers block. I’ve done all the research, and sorted out my ideas, but I can’t seem to write anything. The blank screens stares at me meanicingly.
