Great Balls of fire

July 30th, 2003

Ok, I’m just pissed off at the moment. I got onto my bike this morning, in an aim to burn some calories and display myself to the world in spandex. All went pretty well out in Centenial park, though my form was WAY off. I managed to keep my average speed at around 30-35km/h, but I was truly buggered by the end of it.

I dont’ think I like uni as much now that everyone has come back. Sure, it has it’s pluses. Everthing is open now, that is a plus. And there are some mildly amusing people around. Oh, and since it is silly season, everyone seems to be “in heat”.

And so it came to pass that on the seventh day, God invented Ikea. That is right.. yesterday we spent a marvelous day shopping for modular furniture and accesories. Well mostly accessories, and grabbing some ideas on renovation on the way. The exciting purchase was a set of metal railings for the kitchen.

Well, the eagles have come to roost at “The Shag Pad” which is my place. Yes, my parents have arrived, in one piece, and carrying more homegoods than a 20 year old married couple trying out their first joint credit card. A couple of goodies there, including some yummy chocolate, and a new frying pan! I’m happy, specially since it comes with a lid. However, every time I get a nice big frying pan with a lid, my sister manages to break the lid (allways glass), so we can only assume that it will be a fleeting joy in my life.

I’m going to marshal for a rock climbing competition on Friday. This is rather interesting considering i’ve never been rock climbing in my life. I travelled to St Leonards today with Danielle (who no longer gets called Nadz, much to my dismay) to see the layout of the place. The place is filled with fanatical monkeys scurrying up walls. Apart from being fit and not having computer screens infront of them, they had the same maniacal look on their faces that computer Geeks seem to posses.

Well, belatedly writting about a very interesting weekend. Friday night I went out to dinner with Sally, and a lovely time had (I hope!). Saturday was spent with the Gregory’s having dinner and then catching Terminator 3, where Arnie didn’t look quite as ridiculous as I thought he would. The story had enough holes in the narrative to make it a good action film, though it sometimes got a little too preachy. After all, there is just so many times you can try and palm off the “machines learn to be human” idea as fresh.

It is not often that I get good news academically. Strike that statment; I NEVER get good news academically. So I cannot begin to explain the elation that I’m feeling now that I’ve recieved my marks back from my last assignments! It may not mean anything to anyone else.. indeed, the marks are not out of this world. But since I’ve never professed to having great academic apptitude, they are a sign that I must be doing something right, or that at least I am not an “imposter” in this world of University.

Well, went firetwirling with Striker, Mark and others today. That was pretty good, and it took a lot more skill than I imagined. It is a regular thing on Wednesdays, at 7:00 next to the Newtown cementary. I encourage anyone interested in fire or drums to attend.

I turn to you.

Had a very interesting day. It started wonderfully, having coffee with Anna-Jean. It is strange, I had thought that perhaps she was trying to avoid me at the beggining of the year, and so I had tried not to contact her. How wrong I was! It is very heart warming to find out just exactly how similar we are. Even with our respective situations, we nearly mirror each other.

I finally have internet back at my domicile! It is strange that after about 2 months of not having an internet connection at home, I now feel rather odd writing stuff there. My routine on the net has now involved checking email, answering it, writing in diary, checking others and then promptly leaving. This usually coincided with my free web-cache at Usyd running out.

My lip is positively aching. I finally got the labret that I had bought online, and to get it in… I had to endure the ten of seven hungry lions trying to bite my blood soaked testicles. Perhaps an exaggeration, but not by much.
